QD Vision's Quantum Light™ Product Platform
Demonstrated at White House Media Event
WATERTOWN, Mass., March 23, 2009 -- QD Vision's Quantum Light™
technology platform was demonstrated at a White House event today where
President Obama announced
disbursement of $1.6 billion in research funds
from the $59 billion set aside for clean energy in the American Recovery
and Investment Act. One of four technologies spun out of MIT that were
demonstrated, the prototype, developed with partner Nexxus Lighting, Inc.
(NASDAQ Capital Market: NEXS), demonstrates an LED-based low-power
solid-state lamp that provides high-quality warm light.
MIT President Susan Hockfield
introduced the proceedings with a description
of the commercial potential of MIT's research investments, highlighting for the
President QD Vision's "quantum dot light bulbs that are 500% more efficient than incandescent bulbs,
with no sacrifice in light quality."
QD Vision's patented breakthroughs in very low power
solid state lighting exploit the unique light emitting properties of quantum dots
to deliver huge reductions in power consumption and dramatic color quality improvements.
Unlike the harsh, cold white light typical of today's low-power LED and fluorescent
lights, quantum dots can warm up white light and dramatically improve emitted colors,
while preserving the high efficiency of LEDs.
The prototype demonstration by QD Vision and its commercial lighting partner
Nexxus Lighting, which manufactures and markets the actual LED light bulbs, shows
the quality and efficiency improvements in lumen output and color rendering
enabled by the Quantum Light™ materials applied to the lens of a Nexxus Array
LED Par 30 light bulb. The companies expect to start delivering commercial products
in the near future.
