Clean Energy

The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that conversion to LED lighting from incandescent lights could reduce total electricity consumption for all lighting by 33% in less than 20 years -- a savings in electricity greater than the amount of energy used just to light all U.S. homes today. By developing new technology that will improve the light quality of today's LEDs, while further reducing the power they require, QD Vision has emerged as a leader in green-tech clean-energy solutions.

QD Vision's Quantum Light™ optic enables LED lighting companies to produce lamps that combine the familiar warmth and color of incandescent bulbs with the energy efficiency of LED technology. First products for solid state lighting customers began shipping in the first quarter of 2010. These replacement lamps with screw-in 'Edison' bases will be compatible with existing downlight fixtures in more than 139 million commercial and more than 262 million residential lighting applications in the U.S. alone.

The potential impact on the environment could be significant. A full conversion to LEDs of existing downlights and tracklights in the US (~10% of US fixtures) represents an annual savings of more than 35 billion kW hours (nearly $4 billion), which is the equivalent of nearly 6 power plants or more than 60 million barrels of oil per year.
